My Life of Travel was conceived and created by three serial travellers and IT contractors who now live permanently in London. Having worked together on previous IT projects and become good friends along the way, their creation of the site was as much about building something for themselves as it was about providing a platform to other travellers.
The site has grown organically since first launching at the end of 2005, and was rebuilt and relaunched in April 2008 with a spanking-new look.
Calan Horsman, Founder
Calan is a keen traveller, having recently notched up country number 20 on his travel map. Travelling to London for the first time in 1996 Calan met a friend whose wall map, with pins in all the world cities he had visited, sparked the idea that led to the launch of My Life of Travel in 2005. It was also the concept behind what are now the 'neatest' animated trip maps available online.
Before turning My Life of Travel into a full-time occupation, Calan spent 11 years building web applications in the technology industry, most recently as the CTO of Medicexchange- a leading medical imaging portal. Going slightly further back, Calan was the CTO of the Playshare Gaming Group, and before that, a director of Resolution Media.
When not consumed with work or travel, Calan spends his time battling to the finish line in endurance races, or proudly screaming the praises of his World-Cup-winning Rugby team (South Africa).
Lachlan James, Founder
Lachlan is a seasoned traveller - 14 countries and counting - and frequent snow boarder. He is also a senior web application developer who has spent 7 years building enterprise web applications for large corporates in the financial sector, including the Royal Bank of Scotland, DrKW and, most recently, one of Europe's largest hedge funds, Marshall Wace in London.
Lachlan has vast experience with content management and large-scale mobile applications including a messaging auction system run through Channel Seven television during the Rugby World Cup.
As a typically sporty Australian, Lachlan can often be found on the slopes with his snowboard, or spending his Saturdays on the cricket field.
Haim Bener, Founder
Haim is an avid traveller, with 14 countries notched up on his world map.
A senior software engineer and technical architect with 11 years experience building enterprise web applications, Haim has architected large-scale imaging systems within clustered environments and has developed CRM billing systems and communication tools for companies including Orange, Vizumi and the Playshare Gaming Group.
On the rare occasion that he is not stationed behind a computer terminal, Haim can be found socialising with friends or travelling the globe.
Timothy Elleray, Management Consultant
Tim is an itinerant and staunchly patriotic Australian sports fan, never short of abuse for detractors of the Australian sporting psyche.
A business analyst with 14 years experience developing complex cost and valuation models, Tim has extensive experience in commercial negotiations on client- and supplier-side alike and has consulted on projects valued at over $300m for Mc Nicholas Plc. and Amec. Tim is a former senior manager at Accenture and forms part of the business development team at My Life of Travel.
