Croatia and Belgium... Pizza, Ice-cream, Mussels, Beer and Chocolate

Hvar - Makarska |

In the morning it was off to an early start with grey skies and a long day of travel ahead. We traveled through a narrow channel with some rather harrowing early morning waves, and a frightening tossing and tilting of the boat - although in no time our captain had us round the bend, with the sun shining overhead and stopped for a swim near an old Dominican Monastery. We completed another stretch before stopping for another swim with a view of the famous stretch of beach called Zlatni rat, which means Golden Cape, and is an unusually shaped finger of land that points out into the ocean near Bol on the island of Brac. With an approaching storm and winds picking up, we upped anchor and headed for the security of the harbour at Makarska, a coastal town on the Croatian mainland. After the recapturing of a wandering li-lo by a rather chivalrous Wesley and Anthony, we armed ourselves with ice-cream and had a walk along the famous Makarska Riveria. Bars and restaurants aplenty in this town, and we found a nice spot to have a couple, before wandering along and discovering a market fit for a king! Needless to say we lost the boys rather quickly, and after enjoying our fill of “Croatia’s Tackiest” collection, found Deb, Claire, Lynne and Leanne enjoying a meal of cocktails – which we soon joined and settled in for the rest of the evening. The Boat’s excellent 24 hour bar also came in handy before heading off to bed and a restless night punctuated by strong gusts of wind and the rolling the boat in the storm.
