Wandella - Peak Alone Vineyard |

Conveniently for us, my aunt Tacye and Kiril’s parents live within an hour and a half’s drive of each other. Tacye emerged from a paddock to feed us with belated birthday cake (though my first and only this year, so doubly or even triply welcome!) and tea (provided by us, courtesy of Mr Sainsbury and his superlative Red Label brand). The next excitement was provided by a tour of the farm to meet the cows, horses, sheep, goats, pigs, chickens, turkey and geese, the dog and cat having introduced themselves. Despite the often wet and almost entirely dull weather during our stay, we managed to go horse riding (during which I discovered an allergy to horses with impressive eye swelling, sneezing, coughing and rash producing characteristics, and Kiril was bucked…) Tacye also took us for a drive to visit Tilba Tilba (a tiny country town stuck in the 1950s, where I bought a wooly hat made from an alpaca called Phantom), Mystery Bay (for a stunning walk, despite weather worthy of an English coast on a blustery day) and Bermagui. I waited until the final morning before taking photos, hoping for sunshine, and was rewarded with persistent rain - though the sight of me in a drizabone amused everyone else.
