North America Travels 2006

Oh Canada! |

A group of 11 consisting of 3 Aussies, 6 English, 1 German and 1 Texan (Christian, our tour guide) departed the Seattle hotel at 8.45am. We headed for a huge camping and outdoor shop to purchase some nessasary items for our 21 days camping trip, such as a sleeping bag as one guy didn't have one! This shop, known as REI even has Mountain bike trail, walking tracks and climbing wall so that you can test out the gear before you buy it! I brought some waterproof pants for the wet and snowy conditions that lay ahead of me.
Finally left Seattle about 11am to head to Kamloops, which was an 8 hour drive. At the border we all had to get out the vehicle and go and have our passports stamped, now I have another one!
After crossing the border we had to go shopping for our food supplies, we spent $394 in our first shop, which would only last us for a few days!
Stopped for a late lunch about 4pm at a place called Chilliwack, it was surrounded by snow capped mountains.
Our itinery has changed due to many things not operating yet. Our tour guide had told us earlier on in the day that our group are the icebreakers of the season!
The area between Chilliwack and Kamloops is a farming community, lots of cattle.
Arrived about 8pm to our campsite which was 25km out of Kamloops. We set up our tents just metres from a lake. Christian cooked us tea - salad, beans, asparagus and steak. It soon got very, very cold, I'm guessing it would have been around the 0C! I went to bed with many layers and wrapped in a blanket in my sleeping bag!! Slept very well, so good that I didn't even hear one of the guys coughing all night - big change for me!!

Locations Visited: Kamloops
