On Saturday we caught the train to Brugge for a day trip. We wandered the cobble stoned streets and admired the architecture.

We also took a canal trip through some of the canals that run through Brugge. These were scenic and very beautiful, scattered with low stone bridges and houses made of carved stone bricks. The rooftops looked like lace and were very steep.

We had yet another unbelievable meal in an outdoor café as we soaked up the sun and watched the world go by, listening to the bells of the Belfort chiming in the distance.

After this we climbed the stairs to the top of the Belfort. The staircase was a spiral staircase, and very steep and narrow.

This coupled with about as many tourists as possible trying to get up and down was a challenge in itself. When we reached the top we were greeted by the chiming of the bells every five minutes with many of the tunes sounding quite familiar.

All in all I would have to say that this has been our most enjoyable and relaxing trip yet. The combination of good weather, an easy transport system and a smaller city made it my favourite place so far. (Not to mention the food and chocolate!).
