Istanbul overnight | 26 May 2005

My adventures in Turkey started with my sister Elinor. We arrived in Istanbul and went straight to Hotel Alp in Sultanahmet, a beautiful place with heavy wooden furniture, fluffy white bed linen and a marble bathroom. The next morning saw a quick dash round the city to see the Blue Mosque, Ayia Sophia and Grand Bazaar.

Istanbul was unlike anywhere we had ever been - an exhausting, bewildering mixture of East and West, women in Islamic dress on one corner, mini skirts on the next. Not much time to take it in though, since we flew to Selcuk on the afternoon of Friday 27th May.
