Bukit Lawang and Berastagi |

Mad dash through Sumatra as had less than a week before my unplanned trip to New Zealand so decided to go and see the Orangutangs at the rehabilitation centre in Bukit Lawang. Once again, brave the leech-infested jungle in search of the animals, though it was the Indonesian men that proved the more slimy, unpleasant creatures and the most difficult to shake off (and if you've ever experienced leeches you'll know that's saying something!).

Anyway, a lovely dutch couple adopted me and protected me from the worst of it, so I travelled with them to Berastagi, climbing the active volcano. Tips when climbing active volcanos: eat your lunch before you get to the top (anyone remember the smell of sulphur from school chemistry lessons - yuk!).
