Big Bro's belated birthday trip to Salzburg | 01 Feb 2005

My brother, Mark, and I have a long running tradition of trying to 'out random' each other when it comes to Xmas and Birthday gifts. Clearly I always win. Though this present is towards one of my greatest ideas. The gift was a holiday to go and see the 'Sound of Music' tour (no, he doesn't like the film) - with the clues being an apple strudle, cheesecake (one of his favourite things) and everything tied up in brown paper and string....Genius.

Anyhoo, we jetted off to the land of snow and had an amazing time. The sound of music tour was actually really good fun, and I managed to find a shop that sold teddies dressed in ledenhosen (sp?) and that yodelled when you squeezed its tummy! Unfortunately all of the beautiful fountains were covered up (to prevent from the freeze) but it was still a gorgeous place. Hot apple strudle is amazing, but NEVER order a dessert which says "a selection from the menu"! We ended up with the biggest platter I have ever seen in my life with two of everything on the menu (was still only £15)and the waiter was actually grumpy when we couldn't finish it all (after two previous courses!)

Defo a place everyone should visit. Seeing it in the snow is fantastic, but I imagine its even more spectacular in the spring/early summer.
