Argentina Part 2

Cordoba |

Cordoba is the second largest city in Argentina and is famous for having the first church and university in the Country, both built by the Jesuits in the 1600's. We had a morning to familiarise ourselves with this city before travelling further south.

Cordoba is mainly an Industrial city and is the Capital of Culture 2006 in South the America's. The Jesuits were very active in building up the culture of the area but were getting economically very strong and in the end the Spanish King in the 1700's kicked them out. The Spanish conquistadors were not that interested in education, but instead in rearing mules to send to Potosi in Bolivia to aid with the Silver mining.

The journey from Cordoba to Mendoza was uneventful and very flat with large arable farms everywhere. Lots of signs advertising agricultural products on many of the fences....
