Beehive Meadow |

I woke up around 7:30 pretty hung over. Chris was still sleeping so I decided to fill up my water and take a bath in lake vernon. It was beyond freezing, but it felt soooo good to get the dirt off me.

We ate blueberries and milk with granola (backpacker's pantry) and coffee for breakfast. It was great. Definitely one of the best camping breakfasts around. We broke camp and were back on the trail headed toward Beehive Meadow.

The hiking was very easy. The only problems we had were losing the trail a few times, but that only set us back 20 minutes or so.

At around 12:30 we reached Beehive Meadow. It was by all accounts your average meadow. There was a natural spring that had gold flakes in it (I think... it could have been pyrite though). We heard that bears frequent the area, but once again we were out of luck. No bear sightings.

We had a few Cliff bars and continued to Frog Creek. We thought about staying at Beehive, but since the hiking was pretty easy, we decided to keep moving.

We arrived at Frog Creek around 2:30pm. We had Salami, Cheese and mashed potatoes for lunch. I actually preferred the $1.99 sumomer sausage to the $9 boars head salami. Anyway, we then set up the tent without the rain fly and took a 2.5 hour nap. I slept super soundly. I guess I'm pretty exhausted because I've had no trouble sleeping on this trip. A far cry from camping in Indiana and not being able to sleep a wink.

After our nap, Chris and I made dinner which was Black Bean Tamale Pie. It was ok. A little spicy and the corn chip base was completely stale. The meal had actually expired in February of '07 so I guess it wasn't too bad.

After dinner we sat around and looked out for bears. Our campsite is right next to the creek and about 50 yards from a hill and there are burned trees everywhere. Everything is black and brown so we thought that every shadow was a bear. Oh well.

Anyway, we decided once again to call it an early night. We didn't start a fire and we were in bed by 9:30pm.
