Craters and Waterfalls

Lake Taupo |

Got away from Waitomo in good time and the satnav took us through some stunning backroads much like the highlands of scotland. We arrived in Taupo at about 11:30 and went straight to a spa/swimming pool which had natural hot spring water in it. We relaxed in there for a good hour and a half. We then went into the town for something to eat and then headed out to 'Craters of the Moon' which is a volcanic field with lots of sulpherous steam spurting everywhere. The walk was about 45 minutes and was good fun. On the way to the cavervan park we stopped off at Huka Falls which was a narrow valley between a river and a lake where water gushed through between the two at an incredible rate. Getting to the caravan park was the low point of the day as it was basic and not very nice. Long trip tomorrow as we head south.

Locations Visited: Taupo
