Pacific Coast Highway 1

Cruisin' USA |

We left San Francisco on Thursday, and picked up our flashy rental car - a (well cool) convertible Chrysler Sebring - to drive south down the California Highway 1 to L.A. We'd heard a lot about how scenic the drive was, and it certainly lived up to our expectations. It's nice to see a part of the country where there's nothing for miles, just mountains on one side and the ocean on the other.
We managed to navigate our way out of rush hour San Francisco without a scratch or dent although it wasn't the most fun part of the journey! However, after we got ourselves out of the hetic city traffic it was one of the best experiences ever - it's an amazing drive that we'd do again without hesitation.
We stopped overnight in Morro Bay, which was a really cute seaside town with a popular surfing beach.
The next day, we hit the road for the final stretch to Los Angeles, and this time the scenery was a mixture of coastal roads and wide-open farmland. It was all picturesque until we hit L.A., which was pretty congested, and from Santa Monica you could see the smog haze from the pollution of the city on the horizon.
It was sad to have to give the car back, but there was still lots to look forward to in Hollywood!
