VILLAZON

Villazon with a population of 28,00 is 3440m above sea level. With La Quica (ARGENTINA) it is the main Argentine - Bolivan border crossing.

We walked over the border and unlike other border crossings we were other in a matter of minutes. The high altitude made breathing a bit more heavey than normal, but that is to be expected at this hieght, will be use to it tomo.

It was turning dark as we crossed the border, so we decided to find accomadation so we could damp our bags. As we walñked up from border crossing the roads were packed with Bolivans selling almost anything and everything. We found are hotel, Residencial Martinez just off of the main square Plaza 6 de Agosto. We had managed to get any Bolivarnos yet so we had to pay in Argentinian Pesos. A room for two was 8 Pesos each. The cheapest accomadation so far.

After dropping our stuff of we went in search for something to eat, we came across a small restuarant that did Fried Chicken & Chips. We both had that and two beers whilst watching Rush Hour 2 on the big screen TV. It seemed a common thing in most Restuarant. Headed back to the hotel at 10.30 and went to sleep with the banging noise of a bolivan Disco next door, with some dodgy Bolivian MC. Maybe that is why the room was so cheap.

Woke at 8.30 packed up bags and checked out of Hotel. We had planned to stay in Villazon for one night then catch the train the next day to Tupiza. Eventually finding the train station we were told that all the tickets had been sold, we therefore had to get a bus to Tupiza. The bus left at three so after buying the ticket we went in search for breakfast. We came across another little resturant this time even smaller, it had only three tables. We ordered two coffee´s and two of Bolivan Tradional Meals, Pique a lo Macho (A heap of chopped beef, hot dogs and Frech fries topped with onions, tomatoes and whatever else)

Locations Visited: Villazon, Tupiza, Uyuni, Potosi, Sucre, Santa Cruz de la Sierra, La Paz
