28/29 December |

Mon. 29 Dec. Left home at 9.30 a.m. in order to meet Calan, Rachel, Murray and friend Michael at 10. By bus and foot to the British Museum. Rainy and we actually had to use our umbrellas. Rachel gave us a “guided tour” of the Ancient Greek section. A knowledgeable young lady in this field. However, by 11 a.m., the place was so crowded that it was difficult to hear her, so that fell somewhat flat. Shame! We left there at 12. They all went to “The Lord of the Rings” and we went walking. Lunch at Leicester Square at Starbucks, then home by bus from Trafalgar Square by 3.

Tues. 30 Dec. Out at 10 a.m. with Vaughn and Tammy to Westminster. Walked over Westminster Bridge with literally hundreds of people, most of whom had umbrellas as it kept showering. To the London Eye – what queues! Very well organized re getting people on and off the “bubbles”, each of which . is “mine-swept” between embarkations. We were lucky, as only had about fifteen people with us, so could see very well, Though cloudy, it was clear and we could see well all the places to which we’d walked. The whole circular ride took about 40 minutes, as it moves slowly and steadily. From our vantage point, the crowds below looked like scurrying black ants.
From there, we walked along the Thames and watched the buskers, thence into town. Tammy left us in order to “combat shop” at the sales .Vaughn took us to a soup, sandwich and coffee lunch at a Pret A Manger, of which there are many. Then home by bus. He and Des went to Sainsbury’s and Rose went on home on her own. That evening we tried to watch T.V. It seems that their 900-odd channels are just as boring as ours – and they have just as many ads!
