The Pirin Mountains |

The second week of our adventure started so promisingly; meeting Genna ahead of schedule, we began walking up to Iavarov hut. The day was a tough one, over 1600m of ascent, but by the end of it, we all felt we could conquer anything!

Which was just as well as the next stage of the trip saw us conquer the infamous 'Koncheto' Ridge. Meaning 'the little horse' Koncheto has a reputation like no other in Bulgaria. Just 80cms wide in places it requires a good head for heights, but thanks to a strong metal hawser wasn't technically difficult. Instead it was brilliant fun, with spectacular views to the right and left and especially striaght on towards Mt. Vihren.

A horrendous hailstorm prevented us from climbing Vihren that day and although we had the option to climb it the day after, we opted to spend it relaxing in Bansko, before carrying on to Melnik!

Locations Visited: Bansko
