THE HOT ADVENTURES OF A NOT COLD BIATCH

Arrival in the most boring town in the world - Uyuni |

I arrived into Uyuni at about 6 in the morning after basically no sleep. I don't know why, usually the bumpity bump-ing of the bus sends me to sleep like a little baby but for some reason I felt like complete shite when I arrived.

I saw this English guy searching frantically for his bag in the overheard compartments and was like 'uh oh'.... I asked if his bag had been stolen and surprise surprise it had!! He'd lost his laptop, camera, credit cards, money - basically everyting except his passport!! I think he'd been set up - one of the guys from the bus company had come up to him and told him that he wasn't allowed to keep his bag by his feet, which is complete baloney because I had mine by my feet and always do, and that he had to put it in the overheard compartment. The English dude noticed that this guy was wearing, can't remember the brand, but some international totally expensive jacket that no Bolivian would ever usually be able to afford.

Makes me glad my whole bag wasn't taken, just my camera. But it's frustrating that you can't just relax (and enjoy?) a 20-hour bus ride....

Anyway, arrived in Uyuni and spent ages and a lot of effort finding a place that was clean. The entire town runs on tourism and there's so so much competition for the tourists that people hound you constantly to go to their hostel, to take their tour, to eat in their restaurant, etc. Other than that, there are wild clubs, heaps and heaps of tattoo parlours, places to hire cars (they only have Merc convertibles to hoon around in) and regular street parties in the main street.

So why the title?

Because I'm lying like a biatch. This town had NOTHING!!! Though it did have one little shop that sold all the usual touristy crap but at twice the usual Bolivian price. So of course I bought a few things. I can't stop!!! I bought an extra bag to be able to fit everything in but it's full to bursting!! I think I'm going to have to give up and send some things home but I just don't know if I can bring myself to spend the money on something so pointless!!! But certain persons could expect some nice Christmas presents when I get home.... Unless of course I forget my entire bag getting off a bus (very likely) or break lots of the things in there (even likelier). Then you shall receive nothing more than my Christmas love. Which is just as good. Almost.

So I'm rambling. Because there's not much else to say. Except that as I was walking back to my leetle hotel, I was greeted by a pleasant surprise of Patrick and Lauren - the English couple from my Santa Cruz trip! So off we toddled to a dinner of pizza and vegetarian pasta.... tasty....
