The Eastern Rila Mountains |

After Musala, we got a transfer round to the Maliovitsa complex and had a short hike up the valley to the hut. Although a bit grotty and rough round the edges, its location makes it an excellent base for exploring the Rila Mountains, including Strasnoto Ezero; one of the warmest Alpine lakes in the country.

It also made for some superb games of cricket, Alf couldn't stop slogging it into the windows (an instant dismissal), I had to brave the jaws of the dog more than once to retrieve a ball hit behind and the less said about Simon's tussel with the bin, the better!

It also allowed us to sample some local delicacies, such as a kind of yoghurt drink...the only trouble is that the only animal we saw for miles around was the dog...begging the question where did that milk come from...?

Locations Visited: Rila
