Kaikoura

Whale Chasing | 15 Sep 2006

Up at 6am so that we could get to the ferry terminal by 7:20am. There was a mix up about the tickets as our credit card had been charged twice so we rang them up yesterday and they said they would refund the second one. So we check in at the booth today and they told us that the booking had been cancelled. Luckily the woman was able to re-instate the booking and we got on. The crossing was 3 and half hours and we arrived on the south island at 11:30. We headed straight down to kaikora only stopping to look at some sea lions on the rocks at the side of the road. When we got to Kiakoura we went straight to the whale watching office to see if we could get on a tour. The booked us on for tomorrow but it will cost $250 dollars and we don't think we will be going now. We walked down the beach a little and luckily we could see some whales just off the shore and took some pictures. The campsite is OK and we have a view of the mountains out of our window. Lucy keeps feeding the ducks and now we have a hundred seagulls surrounding our van. Christchurch tomorrow.
