Antipodean adventures |

After many years of anticipation, I finally made the journey half-way around the world to visit the backward-footed people. Twenty-four hours after leaving Heathrow and the pro-podeans of Europe, Kiril and I rendez-vous’d at Sydney airport via, respectively, Dubai and Bangkok. Somewhat bleary-eyed, we set off to introduce me to Sydney. By this time I had no idea what my name was, let alone what day or time it might be, but one would have to really struggle to not be impressed by the iconic sight of the Opera House at Circular Quay.

After a somewhat half-hearted lunch (or at least a meal that I valiantly fought to convince my body was lunch), we took the train to Batemans Bay to stay with Kiril’s parents, Bronwyn and Ian, and Kiril’s former cat, Vish, for a few days (a cat who was formerly Kiril's, rather than formerly a cat). Our plans to snooze out the jet lag on the beach were cruelly scuppered by rain and persistent dullness, but we managed one morning of swimming and lazing, plus an outing with Bronwyn and Ian to some neighbouring beaches and my first kangaroo sighting.

Locations Visited: Batemans Bay
