After arriving early in Caen, our first stop was to the capital of Normandy, Rouen.

We had a few hours here to wander around the city. There were a few things to look at including the spot where Joan of Arc was burned. There were also some memories of the war to see, including the Law Courts whose unrepaired walls are still bullet ridden as a reminder of what the city went through 60 years ago.

After a few croissants for lunch it was back on the bus for the drive to the town of Giverny to visit the home of artist Claude Monet. His home, and in particluar his gardens, were the inspiration behind so many of his most famous works including the Water Lily. Unfortunatly, at this time of year the Lily's weren't in great shape but the rest of his garden, which is still maintained by an army of workers, is immaculate.

After Monet's it was back to our base for the next few days, Caen, where a delicious 3 course Crepe meal in the old town was followed by bed.
