London, March 2006 update

London, March 2006 update |

New Years was a fairly quiet affair by my standards. The recent Switzerland/France trip and no holiday from work both taking a toll.

We intended to celebrate the New Year at The Drunken Monkey. It was, however, far too crowded for half the gang, so we decided get amongst the excellent London fireworks and tens of thousands of Londoners on the streets.

Having planned trips to Egypt and Turkey during April, early 2006 had been designated a quiet period for saving and indulging in the London night life as London began to thaw out. It, however, proved to be a hectic month where I began to look forward to work in order to recover from my weekends. Consequently, I’m looking forward to escaping for a couple of weeks and cruising on the Nile!

It had to be done.

There seemed no better day than 1 April 2006 than to attempt the Monopoly pub crawl: http://www.monopolypubcrawl.org.uk/route.jsp;jsessionid=DLBMBDGFPHGL?route=original.xml

For the record, only Piers and I made it start to finish (albeit with a couple of detours on my part). The remainder of the brave fell en route or only joined part way through the day.

Lessons learnt:
• It helps to have sober people turn up at different stages during the day to help with directions; and
• Do not be tempted to drink whole pints or go ‘top shelf’ at the more expensive streets – you’ll find yourself at home instead of Leicester Square, or you will fall asleep on the tube only to be woken at the end of the Northern line (not your stop).

It was a fantastic day and more fun than I had predicted - highly recommended!

Locations Visited: London, Oxford, London
