Lake District- Spring 2005

Holidaying with my girlfriend's parents. |

During the school hols in March, My self, Marianne and the in-laws travelled up to Hawkeshead near lake Windemere in the Lake District. Living in an attractive cottage, it was a fun week of scrabble, beer and sheep.

Naturally we indulged ourselves with much walking, including Coniston Old Man, the Fairfield Horseshoe etc...

We drank some nice beers from the Coniston Brewery and the Hawkeshead brewery and ate some pretty good grub at the local hostelries. The Duck Inn was quite dissappointing as it now resembles a bar that would be more at home in Covent Garden than Cumbria.

We visited some cracking historic sites- Barrow Abbey, the Gosforth Cross and Hardknott Fort being the ones I can remember.

As for scrabble, because of the new policy of only recording the rest when I win, I have finally become bestter than the lady.

Oh and we bought sheep... lots of sheep... that are very small... with goggle-eyes... and a sheepdog... called Les...

Locations Visited: Hawkshead, Coniston, Barrow in Furness, Gosforth, Ambleside
